The trainer of Triton Sund I'm sure has prepped his horse for this race for some time despite not have been that long in North America with the horse.

Buck I St Pat was shipped over to Europe only 5-6 days before the Elitlopp this year and wasn't up to her usual standard. I dont think that was the optimal preparation for her. Then again some horses travel better than others.

But as I said before...we need this clashes between the best of the best to create a buzz around the event. It doesn't matter if we're talking about trotters or pacers. Hopefully some European trotters will make the trip over for the Breeders Crown later this year. I'd like to see an event at the end of the season where the harness horses from around the world would battle it out for the "crowns". Then again with the different circuits both in North America and Europe offering a lot of money I understand why the connections of the best horses are reluctant to make the long trips.Jannenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8560898823512627114.post-8469047856480669302009-07-24T11:51:50.088-04:002009-07-24T11:51:50.088-04:00Janne,

It is a different track and so on, but it is kind of sad from a horse fan perpective. I see that a couple who did not make the final are racing in overnights for decent purses on Saturday. I hope in the future they come over and stick around for awhile.

Then again, there was Victory Tilly blowing the doors off the field at the M several years ago. At least if you ask the fans. The interesting thing is when these "greats" make the trip over to Europe or to North America and slug it out against each other. As I'm a European harness fan I'm of course speaking of trotters. When Buck I St Pat and Enough Talk came over for the Elitlopp earlier this year it created a tremendous buzz around the event. Unfortunately the North American horses weren't at their best this time...

We need these clashes where the best of the best go toe to toe against each other. Would have been great to see a horse like Lucky Jim in Europe this year. Maybe next year?

Then again with all the money on offer on both continents it's understandable that the connections of these horses try to find the best solutions to race the horses on the best terms and avoid big trips overseas.

I was glad to see that some Swedish horses made the trip over for the Maple Leaf Trot although only Triton Sund made it to the final. This is a really tough horse and could make an impact in the race despite the post position. He races best shoeless but I guess that's out of the quesion since the track is rock-hard?

Hopefully it'll be great race!Jannenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8560898823512627114.post-24902621311071521972009-07-23T19:29:19.554-04:002009-07-23T19:29:19.554-04:00Beach got that outside post in the Messenger, and ...Beach got that outside post in the Messenger, and apparently he must be great, cause first over for half a mile in driving rain while locking wheels in the stretch wasn't enough to beat him, he didn't need to make any post position excuses because he didn't lose!
And just for good measure he posted a time that was only a 1/5 of a second off the winning time from the previous year . . . on a night when the track was rated 4 seconds slower.
From lexington to the meadowlands to the awful Nov day at Woodbine, Beach left NOTHING to prove.Sandynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8560898823512627114.post-15713528617379515772009-07-23T16:14:23.819-04:002009-07-23T16:14:23.819-04:00Greatness is determined by your performance at a h...Greatness is determined by your performance at a high level over an extended period of time. The thesis of the post was not ...Just a quick note. The thesis of the post was not to debate Art Official and SBSW and Shadow Play. I have gotten three responses on Shadow Play for example. One person says he is a poor horse who does not belong on the same racetrack with Art Official, and two who say he could beat Beach and Art Official (if he had a good post or etc).

That's great and I like opinion, but just to be clear, the thesis has nothing to do with those points. The point of it all is that when people like Jesk say "my horse is better than X because he beat him once and would have beaten him a lot more" it is disrespectful, bad sportsmanship and does not show the colts who did deliver week in and week out what they deserve and have earned throughout history.

Art Official is 15 for 40 in his life. He has 25 losses. He went 0 for 15 as a 2YO. He is 2 for 5 this year so far. The colt who he was "better than" won HOY, beat Nihilators single season earnings record, set four WR's, went 20 for 21, never threw in a bad race, and retired on the racetrack what he started it as, a winner. He has a way to go before he hits the bar set by the SBSW. I wish him the best this year, and I hope he does well. But Art Official will tell us where he fits, not the words of his owner.Pull the Pockethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05082676049275768769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8560898823512627114.post-68275541478745694102009-07-23T11:47:23.329-04:002009-07-23T11:47:23.329-04:00Nope. Hell, he's lucky that Shadow Play had the outside post at Flambo for the Confederation Cup.
