Go to google.com and type in "harness racing blog". Find anything? I thought not.
The sport of harness racing was "invented" some time in the past. A long time ago. Try to find out when; and even that is a chore as information and interest in the sport seems to be lower than ever. In the past dozen or so years, with the proliferation of slots, alternate gaming, and the changing face of society, the sport has fallen on hard times in terms of patronage. Too bad really. All it takes is one trip to the Little Brown Jug, or to a County fair like Cumberland's in Massachusetts, and you can see why when we lose harness racing, we lose a little bit of our history.
Over the coming days, weeks and months, we'll talk some racing. We'll talk about betting, horses, the business, owning, and whatever else we can come up with. We might even talk some thoroughbred racing from time to time, like many folks such as Cangamble does.
We'll see what we can come up with. Who knows. Please feel free to respond to my posts, as ideas come from everywhere in the Internet world.
I'd like to see the game grow again. If you are here, I am sure you do too. When I look at the pictures of the Cumberland Fair, I sure hope so. A super-burger or lobster stew? Sounds good to me.
